Today at school, one of the Moms at William's class shared with us such a sweet story about him. She said the other day at drop off,his son wanted to be a helper at the director's office. Helpers get to wear a red apron and a badge. Kids love it coz usually it's a privilege for good kids. That morning, three kids including William was already helpers. The mom said that his son was kind of upset and bummed out that there plenty of helpers already at the office. Without anybody asking, William took off his apron and gave it to his classmate and said "here Miller, you can have a turn".
William, of course is a rascal just like most kid his age...but from time to time, it becomes obvious that he has a special level of kindness in him. As a parent (and every parent should), you always think your kid is awesome. When we hear random stories from people about William's kindness, it makes us beam with so much pride. My husband and I have seen it and from time to time still get surprised that a kid his age would think or do something like that.
Like the time, where one of the teachers at school with tears in her eye told me the story when William asked her on the hallway how her father is doing. They told the kids earlier that week that her father was sick and she will be out of school. She told me that she was so touched by the thoughtfulness of this lil person.William was 3 yrs old at that time.
We've heard people make a comment that he is special and we try to foster that innate kindness in him. You can't teach kids everything but hopefully , everyday we live our lives in actions that inspire our kids to use the inner kindness in them.
